The Acadia Cafe Minneapolis, MN on going improvised music Tuesday at: Acadia.com |
George Cartwright - solo alto II played about 25 minutes, had a few stoppages to correct a few things and to take a 3 second break that went by much too fast. I felt pretty good about staying away from the usual saxophones notes you'd perhaps expect. I didn't know the other 'band' but they were wonderful. Hypnotic and busy in an engaging kind of way. |

TThe Sur Seine Festival at the Zeitgeist performance space downtown St Paul, MN for more information on this wonderful and amazing festival go to this site right down below here: www.surseine.com |
George Cartwright on saxophones and Regis Huby on violin Well, I had a really good time playing with Regis. He has an amazing sound on the violin, loads of deep frequencies you don't usually hear. Rolling and flying and sofly crawling around the room, just like you'd like. |

CARTWRIGHT / FERRIER and JelloSlave AcadiaCafé and Theater Thursday June 9th at 8:00pm, $5.00 cover 1931 Nicollet Ave S(corner of Franklin and Nicollet)
Two of the seminal sax-men on the Minneapolis scene, GEORGE CARTWRIGHT (GloryLand Ponycat, Curlew) and MICHAEL FERRIER (Electropolis, Improvised Explosive Device) present their first ever collaboration. Each brings their own unique vision of the saxophone, electronics, and free improvisation to what promises to be a free-wheeling, white-knuckle ride through varied musical and non-musical terrain. Cartwright was named Jazz Musician of the Year by City Pages in 2004, and Ferriers Electropolis was nominated in 2003 as the Best New Artists by the MMA. Well, this oughta be a real hoot! --George Cartwright
JelloSlave cello duo features JACQUELINE FERRIER-ULTAN and MICHELLE KINNEY exploring influences from throughout time and across all musical boundaries. . . . everything is moving, thrumming, getting somewhere mysteriously in the music of JelloSlave, where its not so much loves fingers you feel but the tendons of the groin and a great bridge liftingor lowering, its reflection turning to something else in the cloudy rapid river. --Lightsy Darst, mnartists.org
