George Cartwright - solo alto

II played about 25 minutes, had a few stoppages to correct a few things and to take a 3 second break that went by much too fast. I felt pretty good about staying away from the usual saxophones notes you'd perhaps expect.

I didn't know the other 'band' but they were wonderful. Hypnotic and busy in an engaging kind of way.

George Cartwright on saxophones and Regis Huby on violin

Well, I had a really good time playing with Regis. He has an amazing sound on the violin, loads of deep frequencies you don't usually hear. Rolling and flying and sofly crawling around the room, just like you'd like.

CARTWRIGHT / FERRIER and JelloSlave
AcadiaCafé and Theater

Thursday June 9th at 8:00pm, $5.00 cover

1931 Nicollet Ave S(corner of Franklin and Nicollet)

Two of the seminal sax-men on the Minneapolis scene, GEORGE CARTWRIGHT (GloryLand Ponycat, Curlew) and MICHAEL FERRIER (Electropolis, Improvised Explosive Device) present their first ever collaboration. Each brings their own unique vision of the saxophone, electronics, and free improvisation to what promises to be a free-wheeling, white-knuckle ride through varied musical and non-musical terrain. Cartwright was named Jazz Musician of the Year by City Pages in 2004, and Ferrier’s Electropolis was nominated in 2003 as the Best New Artists by the MMA. “Well, this oughta be a real hoot!” --George Cartwright

JelloSlave cello duo features JACQUELINE FERRIER-ULTAN and MICHELLE KINNEY exploring influences from throughout time and across all musical boundaries. “. . . everything is moving, thrumming, getting somewhere mysteriously in the music of JelloSlave, where it’s not so much love’s fingers you feel but the tendons of the groin and a great bridge lifting—or lowering, its reflection turning to something else in the cloudy rapid river.” --Lightsy Darst, mnartists.org

Tuesday May 17th

TUESDAY SALON
Zeitgeist Studio
275 Fourth Street East, Suite 100
St. Paul, MN 55101

7:30

I will be performing a piece recently composed for Davu Seru on percussion,
Michelle Kinney on cello, myself on saxophones and sounds I've made on
my computer.

The piece ( Bluff's, Redoubts , Circles) will consist of two segments.
The first where Davu and Michelle listen to the computer music on headphones and
play with it as they like. The second Davu and Michelle play with the same computer music but
the computer music will be played through speakers in the room with me joiniing on saxophone.

Some written music will also be a Michelle's disposal.

There are five or six other pieces being performed by other composers as well and a fine
evening should be had by all.

I hope you can come...

NEW LP
RELEASE

AUGUST 2004

Andrew
Broder
George Cartwright

Roratorio 08

a new lp called either "Andrew Broder and George Cartwright" or
"George Cartwright and Andrew Broder" depending on sheer luck as to which one you get.

It's released on Roaratorio Records # 08
You can order it at roaratorio.com or snag one from Andrew or George at a gig or someplace. Price is around $14 I believe.

It was recorded at The Acadia Theatre Feb 2004 by Martin Dosh and mastered by Ben Durrant at Crazy Beast here in the Twin Cities.

Oh, by the way Andrew is the leader of 'FOG' which has a new cd out very soon and he playes turntables and effects like whatever and George plays mostly saxophones and a
little cued laptop sounds. Lots of dynamics and soulful connections abound.

Plus the transparent red vinyl makes a niffty looker too.
